Japan can put people before profits: For the deflationary, fiscal deficit plagued, yield-less, and 4.1% unemployment rate Japan, Martin Wolf from FT suggests “structural reforms focused on the weakness in private demand. [lower] retained earnings…without equally reducing investment. [Employ] the high levels of investment…[all via]: raising wages; forcing higher distributions to shareholders, via changes in corporate governance; and, finally, changing corporate taxation to encourage distribution of profits to shareholders and raise tax revenue. Rating Agencies under fire: Department of Justice filed a complaint against S&P in a LA federal court yesterday, accusing the firm of knowing misrepresentation. S&P is likely to argue that the decision-making process was inherently subjective rather than intentionally fraudulent. Good old linear regression with size of signature as a variable along with other things. Result is that the signature size is negatively associated with current return on assets.
