What if we never run
out of oil? [Note: good long piece on the Atlantic about the relationship
amongst shale gas, oil, coal, and methane hydrate. The point is, pay attention
to the methane ice close to the coast of Japan—no country wants to be dependent
on Saudi and the U.S., and the economic retrieval of such resources could spell
another round of industrial revolution]…Source: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2013/05/what-if-we-never-run-out-of-oil/309294/
The short supply of
assets: Fantastic chart and data here from Citi Research showing the
issuance of various securities over the last 10 years in the Eurozone, US and
Japan. It’s interesting to note the
surge in treasuries that has occurred since the collapse in the GSEs and the
so-called AAA bubble in real estate.
It’s also interesting to note the decline in net issuance. In other words, the supply of asset issuance
continues to run at a level well below pre-crisis levels. That might explain at least some of the broad
upward pressure on assets in general. Source: http://pragcap.com/the-short-supply-of-assets
Another tech piece in
Alcatel’s turnaround warchest: Yes, execution and cost cutting is key for
Combes, but note this: Feldman sees towers as the rage for the next year to
come, but what if ALU brings much smaller “cell towers” to our block to enhance
capacity and enable convenient deployability? The small cell technology has
been around for years but ALU is first of its kind bringing it to the market.
It’s noteworthy that China Mobile and Spring already took the plunge. Source: http://www.njtvonline.org/njtoday/video/bell-labs-lightradio-cube-could-be-game-changer-in-wireless-technology/
