Difference Engine: Unplugging the cables: perhaps implausible for many, data transfer via wireless connection (60 GHz) may be 100x faster than our Ethernet cable. The government deemed this spectrum worthless as the nature and location easily disturbs this bandwidth, but in short distances with adaptive beamforming, IEEE had tailored the WiGig standard to transfer 7 gigabits / second (10x faster than the slickest wi-fi today). The promise is that, once the wrinkles have been ironed out, 60 gigahertz Wi-Fi could be an even bigger driver of innovation in the years ahead than the original 2.4-gigahertz Wi-Fi was in its day. If uncluttered spectrum is what developers hunger for, then the unlicensed 60-gigahertz band is the last great frequency domain awaiting to be gobbled up.
