Oddly Relevant May-16-2013


A perfect storm for Tesla: we know it’s scary, and a challenge is good: (1) It’s still running at a operating loss of $6mm, but recorded profit w/e $17 mm in other 1-time income; (2) the company stopped disclosing its reservation numbers, not saying anything, but more probably bad than good; (3) quietly lowered their guidance and tipped us on weak North American demand + shipment to Europe instead; (4) when we back out regulatory credit, each Model S is still slightly manufactured and sold in the red. Prediction: tw telecom Will Buy, Not Sell: tw telecom doesn’t need capital or business plan and, if anything, they are on top of their game and but their assets hey aren’t necessarily the most extensive or the newest or the most strategically placed. At a level not seen since 2001 and very favorable debt market, TWTC in a position to make a big move should the opportunity arise. Arch Coal: Taking a Side on an Uncertain Outlook:  Mostly thanks to its significant leverage to domestic thermal and will benefit to shift back to coal as nat gas price rises.
